The Chinese New Year keeps a 16-day-long celebration. The Lantern Festival can be regarded as the end of Spring Festival. As for the Chinese people, food plays a very important role in festive celebrations.


On the Lantern Festival, Tangyuan becomes a big celebrity that almost everyone will eat it. The steam-filled Qibao Old Town Tangyuan Shop was full of people. Visitors come here just for the glutinous rice balls.

Resident Mrs. Bao said:“ I just want to eat TangYuan here. Very good taste that attracts me a lot. I like peanut flavor. Only here I can get, so I will buy some raw ones and take home later.”


Before the day, more residents also prepare to take away some raw TangYuan.

“ I bought some sesame and fresh meat TangYuan. I buy here every year because of the good taste. Both the Chinese New Year and before the Lantern Festival to share among relatives." Resident Mrs. He told reporter.

Knead the fine glutinous rice flour and serve with a fresh filling. Sweet ones contain black sesame, bean paste, peanuts. As for salty, there are also shepherd's purse, fresh meat and so on.


Under the skillful hand-made of the staff, a huge and complete rice ball can be wrapped just in ten seconds.

Since the Spring Festival, the daily sales volume of TangYuan has continued to rise more than usual several times.

中国春节有着16天的庆祝活动,元宵节可以被看作春节的尾声,对于中国人来说,食物在节日庆祝中举足轻重,在元宵节前后,几乎人人都会吃的汤圆成了“大明星”。你看,弥漫着水蒸气的七宝老街汤圆店里座无虚席,大家专程而来品尝汤圆。


市民包女士告诉记者:“就想吃这里的汤圆,好吃,一直来这里,我喜欢吃花生味的,只有这里有,等会儿再买点生的带回去。”


元宵节前,更多上海市民则是打包生汤圆以作准备。


“我买了芝麻汤团和鲜肉汤团,正好每年过年、正月十五之前会过来买,亲戚间分一下。”市民贺女士说。


上等糯米粉揉成团,搭配新鲜的馅料,有甜口的黑芝麻、豆沙、花生,也有咸口的荠菜、鲜肉等。店员们的巧手下,十秒内就能包成一颗硕大圆满的汤圆。春节假期以来该店汤圆日均销售量持续走高,相较于平常增加了数倍。
