醒狮，原名为瑞狮，意为吉祥如意，是民间独有的庆祝方式。因为“瑞“字在粤语方言谐音“睡”，具有民族忧患意识的人们便将其改为“醒狮”。作为国家级非物质文化遗产，相传它起源于南北朝时期，是为驱邪避灾、祈求平安而生的神兽。它的形象威武又灵动，寓意着吉祥如意、兴旺发达。在古代，每逢重大节日或庆典，醒狮就会闪亮登场，用它那矫健的身姿和灵动的眼神，为人们带来满满的祝福。
The Awakening Lion, originally called the "Rui Lion" (literally "Auspicious Lion"), symbolizes good fortune and prosperity. It is a unique form of celebration in Chinese folk culture. Due to the Cantonese pronunciation of the character "瑞" (ruì), which sounds like "sleep" (睡, shui), people with a sense of national consciousness changed the name to "Awakening Lion". As a national-level intangible cultural heritage, the Awakening Lion is said to have originated during the Southern and Northern Dynasties period. It was created to drive away evil spirits, prevent disasters, and pray for peace. The lion's image is both powerful and lively, symbolizing auspiciousness, prosperity, and development. In ancient times, during major festivals and celebrations, the Awakening Lion would make its grand appearance, performing its agile movements and lively gaze to bring blessings to the people.
